Realizing the Possibilities Where Healthcare and Sustainability Meet
Northwest is committed to annually reporting to GRESB (formerly Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark), an independent standards organisation that creates global benchmarks to assess the ESG (environmental, social, and governance) performance of property and infrastructure organisations.
In 2023, Northwest is proud to have achieved strong results above benchmarks in all key scoring metrics by GRESB having achieved a second-place ranking in both the Standing Investments Benchmark and the Development Benchmark for globally listed healthcare participants, coming second only (in both categories) to our NZX-listed Vital Healthcare Property Trust (VHP), managed by Northwest Healthcare Properties.
From the day we started NorthWest Healthcare Properties, sustainability has been a part of how we operate.
Strategy Overview
Our sustainability strategy is grounded in the conviction that Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) topics are at the heart of the value we strive to deliver to our stakeholders.

Northwest Pioneering Sustainable Energy
We’re thrilled to unveil our Solar and Ice Thermal Project, a groundbreaking integration of renewable energy solutions in our 24/7 operational facility at Kelvin Grove in Queensland. This first-of-its-kind system supports critical services, including the Australian Red Cross Lifeblood service and QUT (Queensland University of Technology), with unmatched efficiency.
Key Highlights:
🔋 400kW solar installation providing clean energy and reducing reliance on traditional sources.
🌡️ 5.8GW of thermal energy storage across 10 massive 8-tonne tanks, enabling optimised energy use and flexibility.
This $4.4m innovative project sets a new benchmark in sustainable infrastructure, combining cutting-edge solar and thermal storage technology.
